TomK, I agree with what you expressed above. It certainly would help cleared the air on this one. Maybe they already have dash cam evidence on this.

Big Island Now has a story about two car thieves arrested yesterday in Hawaiian Beaches. Not only is ramming a vehicle involved, but one of those arrested (Juanita Grammer) has the same last name as the woman shot only hours earlier:

You do know this was at 1 am yeah? How did they know that while she was trying to kill them with her car, that she didnt have a gun as well? What would u do in the dark?
What if she had more perps there to ambush them? It 45 min to hilo for back up?
It looks like they are thinking about putting together a special team again,since the cops have been under attack. Its a ****ty, scarry job,that doesnt pay that good for
A rookie. And the younger cops usuall get the more dangerous assignments. You know most of there job is to domestic disputes ,correct? How would u like to be a social worker with a gun?

I appreciate there being there, to help us citizens that dont carry a gun.

That being said, make sure to tell any visitors to not go to that area (unless they are getting crack,of course) lol

That area within a 3 block radius has had a spike over the past year in death related criminal activity and violent crime.
·Suicide involving man in car outside house trying to contact girlfriend in house. Surrounded by police.
·The guy who jumped off the cliff into the ocean to evade police.
·Another shooting related incident at bottom of hill at honolulu landing.
·Someone riding a bike on beach road was tackled by a nude man who'd leapt from the jungle and then stole the bicycle.
·Car jacking at knife point.
·Now this one.

All within the last year.
It's like a war zone down there.

It was also using a deadly weapon if they didn't properly identify themselves. You would be justified in shooting them as an ordinary citizen in the same position with someone trying to kill you by repeatedly ramming your car.

Question: don't most police cars in Puna, when on patrol at night have their blue lights lit softly, just enough that you can see the blue glow over their car? I can see them from 200 feet away, on the road outside my house at night. There's probably a chance the suspect / victim saw that identifying light as the police pulled up at 1 AM in the morning, and reacted as a fugitive with $50,000 warrants for her arrest might respond. Or maybe she was just having a rough night, and didn't think it could possibly get any worse.

Very few still have them. In the last year, most went to the hidden lights. Also remember that most of the police vehicles are owned by the officer, who receives right at $600 per month to cover the cost of the vehicle, plus 1 gallon of county provided gas for every 10 miles driven while on duty. I would suppose the officer whose nice new Tahoa was rammed repeatedly, was quite pissed about that...
