Which is to say, with the help of modern medicine these type of things can be eradicated..

I am in no way trying to tell anyone that they should or should not get a flu shot. That's your choice. At least it should be..

And let's hope, when there is a real vaccine to do away with the flu, folks will want to voluntarily do their part in it's eradication as well. As it is, with a compromised immune system and lung condition I welcome all the help I can get. And still, I carry hospital type dust masks around with me and put one on whenever I see a potential vector in the vicinity. And of course airplanes are still the absolute worse.

I took a flight from Hilo to Maui a while back. As I was going down the loading ramp I put my mask on to quiet snickers from the folks around me. I'll admit I feel silly whenever I put a mask on in public, in America. As we sat down I realized one of those that snickered was sitting next to me and making a little apologetic gesture. Eye contact and whatnot. Soon after take off someone closer towards the front of the plane started sneezing, and the person next to me was asking if I had any spare masks lickety-split.

I guess they felt immortal, until they didn't.

This is why I asked about your claim about supporting science.

1) 115 participants is a ridiculously small sample and you cannot make any significant claim based on that.

2) The paper admits:

"Influenza vaccination is effective in preventing influenza virus infection and associated morbidity among school-aged children"

3) If injecting pig gelatin is against some religious beliefs, that is not a problem science deals with, and again brings me back to whether you really understand science or not. Religious beliefs are not part of science. You ought to know and understand that.

Given your claim that you have a major in science and that you support it, I'm now troubled because I now think you made that up.

The State of California passed a bill in 2015 that prohibits unvaccinated children from attending public or private day care and K-12 schools. It's not 100% effective in screening out unvaccinated children, but has greatly reduced parents not vaccinating their children. Personal preference and religious reasons are not valid for exemption. Flu vaccine is NOT part of the required regimen. It's primarily HepB, DTaP, measles, mumps rubella, polio, and chicken pox. The bill was challenged, but there are two US Supreme Court cases setting precedent and it was stated the bill did not violate the right to education. https://www.shotsforschool.org/laws/exemptions/

You may remember the measles outbreak at Disneyland which prompted the bill. As one who barely survived measles as an infant, it astonishes me that any parent would risk the life of a child by refusing to vaccinate.

I don't see what your point is. Of course, communications don't require people to agree with each other. If they did things would be exceptionally boring and no-one would learn anything from anyone else. We learn via disagreements and people having different views. Are you considering stopping that on PW? I simply don't understand your post. No disagreements allowed on PW?
