It is my considered opinion that the winter drought has broken.
But then as it now stands, after 2 day it might be returning to a dryer pattern as before.
Time will tell.
In any case, the rains are welcome.
I need to check for leaks in my new lanai roof.
Although, the cats do not seem to be happy about it.

Welllll.... Since the Chinese government pays me to troll these forums, I communicate with the gods in Beijing Time, where it has been Friday for over 10 hours!
I wonder if my catchment is already back to full?

As for the winner of the, "My weatherman is better than yours" contest" we are all victorious. The aina was so thirsty!

At this very moment I tend to agree with you on the drought being broken but just as you said there is the possibility (I think highly possible) of us jumping right back into the dry pattern after this disturbance has passed.
I miss Ino's posts.

Wunderground forecast 1/4-1/2" today. Weather.gov forecast less than 1/10" even after we had gotten a few inches. Round one goes to wunderground but is it really so difficult to forecast a major storm that would bring us 5" (and counting) today? Wunderground is also forecasting almost constant rain next week from Monday night through Fri. We'll see.

The way they present that is confusing, clearly, as you are misunderstanding their statement.
What that means is less than 1/10 per shower, or 1/4 to 1/2 inch per shower for heavier events. So, when you finally get the frequent showers we've been waiting for then the daily total can add up to something significant.

Oddly enough...
Facebook is now showing me adds for life jackets.
I do not own a boat nor have I been shopping for one.

The local news has been saying showers for us for weeks now with all the storms moving our way from the north and we have had basically nil in Puna till Thursday's downpours.
So Kaliana when you posted this: but is it really so difficult to forecast a major storm that would bring us 5" (and counting) today?
I chuckled a bit.
It is just exemplary of our local meteorologists being unable to accurately predict weather for our windward side of the big island. Or at least for my lifetime here, they have all been pretty $h*tty at doing so.

So much for GOES 17, eh? And we ended up with six inches of rain by this morning.
