Sen Kahele and his Tmt flip flop lol

"Love,
The Negligent Idiot Teacher with the awesome, creative, inventing, thinking students.
"

I don't care how you try and justify or describe yourself. You lied about the TMT and observatories funding STEM education. Given that funding has been available for a number of years I don't think I am wrong in saying you have deprived your students of STEM funding and, if you really are a teacher, have likely misled your students and robbed them of opportunities. I don't think that's awesome, creative, inventing or encourages thinking. I do think it's likely your students deserve better.

Tom,
This is what I said; "My STEM classrooms haven't received any grants from the observatories, but have gotten funding from a Governor's Grant, our own grant writing; and whatever meager monies we can squeeze out of the DOE (who are Public Charter School biased)"

Sorry, I don't see the lie.

You seem to think that classroom teachers are responsible for DOE funding.......All the teachers I know keep pretty busy without having to lobby for more money.

I don't assume that the TMT's failure to build another observatory is all your fault; and that you have likely misled your fellow peepers and robbed them of opportunities....... but then I'm not a total VVanker.

edit; bypassing the vvanker filter.

Now he is going to try his hand at understanding the cultural ness of tha Kanaka maouli.
Apparently, they are pissed that we were taking trop fish and Kahele is there to protect them.By banning trops forever.

How does a hawaiian feel when he loses his job culturally?

Well 200 of them lost wwhen rene umberger and snorkel bob killed west hawaii trop fishing,(via the state sup court) and they wont be happy untill they kill all fishing everywhere.
Sustainable is not in there vocabulary.

Well, how does an Hawaiian feel, dan? I am sure you are just itching to tell us, so please, go ahead...

And while you are at it maybe you can tell us, with reefs dying all over the planet, just what about the vanity aquarium fish industry is a part of sustainability?

Did that. Great bill. I am all for it, and since you brought it up I will tell all my friends and family about it too. I especially like the part where it says..

The legislature finds that the commercial capture of Hawaii's reef wildlife for sale to the aquarium pet trade is incompatible with kanaka maoli values such as living in harmony and balance with nature, malama 'aina, kuleana for the surrounding environment, the concept of aloha 'aina, and other Native Hawaiian traditional and customary gathering rights and cultural practices. The commercial trade is contrary to pono fishing practices, such as taking only what is needed for subsistence.

It's a great bill. Absolutely the finest. And I must admit, it gives me a greater respect for Sen Kahele. Thanks for bring it to our attention.

We need a law to deal with the problem of aquarium fish over-harvesting, and I support the bill. Could do without the obvious pandering to the Native Hawaiian lobby, though. The values behind the concept are far broader than that.

If u actually read the law and the testimony of those for and against, you would see. There is allready a eis being done. The eis also cks out the cultural aspects of the trop fish trade. Its almost done.

So snorkel bob and crew stopped the west side from taking trop fish and required a es. Now a eis. If the state did not agree with the snorkel bob and thought the fisherman were taking to many ,they would shut it down. Instead the DLNR sided against the bil 931
They didnt they said, lets wait to see what the in depth eis shows and then we can make an informed decision.

Instead the press has taken a tree hugger slant on it.

Im all for anyhing that will heal the ocean and make her better. Would stopping all harvest from the ocean do that? No. Would stoping all harvest of any fish help the reef?
No. Woould growing corals that are heat resistant to hot seawater help? Yes. Would burning less oils help ? Yes. Would it help to argue about it? Probably not.

Be a solution to the problem. Drive less, recycle, eat less processed foods, be healthy, be good to your neighbors. Malama the Aina.
Care.
Aloha

I am 100% for a ban on taking fish for aquarium sales.

The Kohala Coast used to be called the Gold Coast from all the massive schools of tang. No more.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Malama the Aina.

I suppose, hope, pray, that means protect our reef fish too, right?

Yes Chunkster, the local "pandering" to the local lobby is just a bit of political slight of hand. But the guts of the matter, that we have an incredible resource in the nature around us and should do all we can do to protect it from further degradation on all fronts, is critical.

IMO Kai has increased his stature with this bill. I hope all those that have opposed it in the past will come around to its importance this time.

And, I suppose the critical question for Dan is, what is sustainable? The extremely depleted levels we have now, or the abundance we all remember from the days gone by?
