Why no access for those isolated by flow?

In addition to updates on Kilauea Lava Recovery efforts, we will also be presenting certificates honoring Ikaika Marzo, Pu’uhonua o Puna, and other organizations who helped the Puna community in our time of need ."

Please tell us where all the donated money went, that all these organizations received.

I wonder about that too.

I wonder if the question of what happened to donations may be a separate topic and merit its own thread.

I've also wondered if these organizations gave out financial help to "those who need it". If so, what was the process to apply for help and what criteria was used to determine if the applicant was indeed a resident impacted by the disaster?

In all fairness I never approached these organizations directly but I was unable to find any info about how one might apply for help from them online.

$77,355 of $10,000 goal Raised by 699 people in 9 months

Back-of-the-napkin: a 20-foot roadway is about 2.5 acres/mile.

Assuming $6K/acre for D9 rip-n-roll, that $77K would pay for about 5 miles of road.

Maybe less with a little cinder, or a more expensive D9 operator.

Note that I'm assuming the "problem" to be solved is "create road access" -- it's pretty clear the Mayor/Council are working on a different problem.

Being Hawaii, my first thought is, you had to be a relative?

Since the Senate (McConnell) refuses to hear the Disaster Recovery Act that passed out of the House, there isn't going to be any Fed funding for Hawaii (and any other states that suffered through natural disasters) anytime soon.

It seems like it would be an embarrassment to the county and state if private funding could pay for road reconstruction.. when they if fact could not ( or just wont). IF that is the case, why do we need the government for, remind me.. I keep forgetting.

why do we need the government...

It keeps the East Hawaii unemployment rate from reaching 70%.
