However anyone who would like to read about the multitude of different groups involved in the climate rally and other climate actions in Honolulu and Hawaii and elsewhere (there’s not just one?!) you’ll discover numerous independent groups, some with similar core beliefs, some organizations with quite different viewpoints. There are no parrots, Mr. Ed, or other talking animals. Unfortunately, I suppose. But there’s also no underlying conspiratorial manipulation, brainwashing or mass exploitation of young impressionable minds. Sorry. Here again is the link I posted earlier:

There is a great photo expose with pictures of the protest/gatherings from places as diverse as Paris and Berlin to Sydney and Kampala, Uganda. From Cape Town to Tokyo. For Kane to have highjacked this thread with his fear and lack of understanding of the issues and the movement itself is a shame.

Hopefully most here can see the value of this movement. Hopefully Kane is not exemplary of the attitude of our community as whole, but rather just an uneducated exception.

I am happy to see those pictures from around the world. To know that what started as 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who protested climate change at the front steps of the Swedish Parliament last year, has turned into a worldwide awareness of the problems our kids face.

Here in Hawaii we are lucky that our islands for the most part have considerable vertical relief. That we should be able to adapt to the coming rise in sea level is a hopeful sign we might be able to avoid some of the more catastrophic changes expected in the low lying islands in the Pacific. But we will not be able to avoid it all. As someone pointed out the mean changes to sea level does not account for the true heights we can expect, and other changes such as water temp etc can have way more far reaching effects. But, regardless, we old folks are leaving our kids a horrible mess to contend with.

Hopefully folks like Kane will come to understand the error of their ways. Will give up all that hate filled garbage dished up by conspiracy websites designed to pervert the views of their susceptible readers and come to realize that the gathering of those kids is one of the most hopeful signs we have that they are preparing themselves for what's ahead rather than listen to all that gibberish.

Sorry for the hijack and "wandering off the farm", but sometimes you must look beyond Puna.

A UN backed study showing the decline of the natural world has me convinced that this will kill us long before we have to worry about climate change.

I've always thought this. Especially when you fly across the country, look out the window and see the magnitude of what humans have done to the earth. How can you NOT see we have an affect??? I haven't seen a butterfly since I was a kid!
