Seems to me HPP should use Day Lum as an advisor to accomplish this again.

Yes, Nancy Cabral knows her stuff. But something that helped her get things done was the Master Receiver and Court having her back. The Board pretty much stayed out of her way and let her be the Manager which was a HUGE benefit! She's fearless, but respectful.

Thanks for posting the meeting here Mermaid. I heard about it but was not sure. I am desperately trying to get someone to attend but can't find anyone who cares anymore and I am off island. I am hoping you will post what transpires. At this point there must be a few board members who are truly embarrassed to be a part of this total dysfunction. I do know there are 1 or 2 who still feel that the GM can be won with kindness. In 4 years, things have gotten worse and worse so I don't know how anyone can still have this delusion. The changing of the board did not improve our circumstances 1 iota. Now we are not even having membership meetings and a severe lack of board meetings. How can anything get done? Well, I am sure there is 1 person who is delighted by this and a few who are; frankly just to corrupt and, or dumb to see the truth. There is only 1 solution and that is professional management. Then we will be able to see how bad things got as they sift through the quagmire that has intentionally been created. By then, all the ones involved will have fled the coop. Think not? The law suit for the illegally fired employees is 4 years and counting. Most all the culprits are long gone and the newbies don't have a clue as to what really happened and even believe unverifiable lies.

U of course know that there are 2 sides to a coin. The hppoa is doing a better job now than in the past. My street gets graded more often, and now they spray a agregate spray that knocks down the dust( it helps) and that makes for less potholes.

I think they are doing there job ,which is to take care of the easements and the roads. I see them Mowing and brush clearing every day. It would be nice to see one new road a year tho. It will never happen on my road , as its a main dirt road to let the earth machines travel across the center of hpp without hurting the asphault.

Im fine with that. The paved roads are treated like hiways and drivers go 40 + mph on them. Almost got clobbered backin out into the street 3 days in a row. Be very aware what goin on arround u.

I think it getting better ,not worse.

If u think anything needs addressed in the park ,go put in a work order for it. I did the other day ,to have the albezias removed or killed by hpp and the adjoining 16 street between paradise and makuu. These. NEed to come down. Asap. AS that area will be. Needed if hppoa becomes a incident command area for the next crises.

The CERT people are trained and ready for the next one. Lets make sure the command center area is safe as well.

After issele, there was no way to acess hppoa as trees were down all arround it. That must not happen in the nExt hurricane. Which will probably happen this summer. ProbablyOn me birthday lol. August this year which has shown to. BE a mild el nino. Water is 78 deg now. It will for sure top 80 deg this summer. Guys surfin without wetsuits allredy. Times a changin
Aloha

Like Dan, I see improvement in the roads and easements, too. The grader comes more often and does a better job than a few years ago. The guy who operates the long arm mower really seems to know what he is doing, and even gets some overhanging tree branches. Perhaps this has something to do with abandoning the ill-fated chip seal project to focus on maintenance? (I criticized chip seal, particularly in reference to 23rd where it has always looked crappy and now has more patch than "pavement" in some stretches.) I have also found the office staff to be more responsive and polite. I'm sure someone will immediately pop up and describe some horror, but it should be noted that more than one person sees improvement.

Thanks Chunk. The ladies in the office do take to heart what has been said here on
Punaweb, so a blalanced report would be nice. It seems easy to point fingers and such
Its a little harder to get 2 sides to a conversation and make an informed. Response.
Aloha

Here are the candidates running in this term's elections:

District 1 (3 yr seat)

Brian Ingalls

Larry Kawaauhau (current president)

District 6 (3 yr seat)

Sky Margaret Goodheart

Craig Crelly (current secretary)

District 9

No one came forward to run in this district so the seat is deemed vacant, to be appointed in July 2019

The board filled the vacancy for Dist 9 seat last night whose term ends at the June membership meeting 2019. Brian Ingalls is the current Dist 9 board director for the next two months.

There will be a Meet the Candidates Event on Sunday 28 April 2019 from 5-7 at the Activity Center. Please come join us and meet your candidates. Refreshments will be served.

A question came up in understanding the election process and thought there may be others w/the same question:

There were 2 applicants to fill the current vacant D9 seat which was advertised on the website over a month ago. The D9 seat ends at the June 2019 membership mtg. Because no one came forward in the current elections to run in Dist 9, a 3 yr seat, it was deemed a vacant seat. Any one from any district that is current w/their road fees can apply for that vacant D9 seat by the July 2019 board meeting, and it will be filled for a 1 yr term.

In 2020-2021, District 9 will be up for the elections again but for a 2 yr seat. Hopefully someone comes forward from that district at that time so that someone from Dist 9 will be representing their own district.

So Chunkster and Dan. A few people get their roads worked on and you think things are better. Has the Finance Committee ever received the reports they used to get until a year or so ago so they can do their job correctly? Is the F.C. being included as per our bylaws require for purchases, expenditures and mandated they do the budget? Has the forensic analysis ever happened, has there been any transparency at all? If you are appeased then things must be better eh?Just the mentality that the GM loves. Until we have the disclosure we deserve we are no better off. We have not been properly informed of potential lawsuits. Basically, we know nothing.... ahhhh ignorance is bliss. Just add 4 years of our forced ignorance to your road.

I look at it this way. After years and years of participating in earnest hand wringing, constant complaining, worthless committee meetings, even more worthless general membership votes, and elections that are promised to fix things if we just vote the "right" people in this time, I'm ready to be pragmatic about HPP. That means I've reset my expectations to a basic level. My road and that of everyone I've spoken to has been substantially better for about a year now.

HPP is a road maintence organization. That job is finally getting done on a more regular basis. No, it's not perfect, and I'm sure some sincere individuals will pop up here on Punaweb and shout, "But people are suffering! My road is bad." It is, however, substantially improved, and I've even gone out of my way to drive some of the roads outside of my area to confirm my opinion.

Having said all that, I still think HPP is fundamentally a failed enterprise as set up, mainly because of the dishonesty of the county system that allowed it to be set up the way it was. If somebody has a solution for that, tell us about it, and I'll listen.
