"A series of images released by NASA have sparked concerns that the Earth could be heading for a mini ice age. Photographs of the sun show that the star’s sunspots have vanished, with the normally volatile surface appearing relatively calm, reports the Daily Star. This is the fourth time this year the sun’s face has appeared smooth, with experts saying solar activity is falling more rapidly than any time in the last 10,000 years." -- https://www.unilad.co.uk/science/scienti...oes-blank/
"CHICAGO — Contrary to the conventional wisdom of the day, the real danger facing humanity is not global warming, but more likely the coming of a new Ice Age. What we live in now is known as an interglacial, a relatively brief period between long ice ages. Unfortunately for us, most interglacial periods last only about ten thousand years, and that is how long it has been since the last Ice Age ended. How much longer do we have before the ice begins to spread across the Earth’s surface? Less than a hundred years or several hundred? We simply don’t know.
Even if all the temperature increase over the last century is attributable to human activities, the rise has been relatively modest one of a little over one degree Fahrenheit — an increase well within natural variations over the last few thousand years. While an enduring temperature rise of the same size over the next century would cause humanity to make some changes, it would undoubtedly be within our ability to adapt." -- http://www.winningreen.com/site/epage/59549_621.htm

That article is from 2016 and claims "scientists" predict a new ice age by 2019. Do people even read the links they post?
Its source is the Daily Star which you may be forgiven for thinking is a newspaper dedicated to astronomy but actually it's one of the worst rags you can imagine.

Good thing we live Hawaii, where it's still 1973...

Paul missed the point as usual. Maybe I should have cited the 1975 Newsweek dedicated to the coming Ice Age.

Old Croc -
Below is a link for a NASA photo & animation showing the changes in Earth's polar ice cap between 1984 & 2016. If you like, you can compare that to the historical CO2 measurements made by the Mauna Loa Observatory.
You can also find numerous articles describing mprovements made in both weather and climate tracking and forecasting since the 1975 Newsweek story you mentioned. We have a far more advanced system of weather satellites and computer models than we did 45 years ago. If I remember correctly, most computers back then still required a stack of punch cards when they ran an inquiry.

I get Old Croc's point. Out of tens of thousands of published studies on the subject one got it wrong in 1975 and therefore everything published since then must also be wrong.
Simple logic.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I know old croc's post was not directly Hawaii-related, but it does need responding to given how much the public is misled by the false-reporting of science by the tabloid media.
The claim that the current solar minimum will lead to a mini-ice age is utterly false thanks to tabloids misquoting what scientists have said. Yes, there is a current solar minimum which has led to some occasions where there were no sunspots, but this is similar to the last solar minimum. In addition, the predicted change in solar radiation produces hardly any effect on the planet due to the way heat propagates through the atmosphere.
For those interested in seeing how the misinformation was spread, I refer you to the following article showing how the myth was spread:

Essentially this eternally recurring mythology is the result of the spin of tabloid media (video). While this kind of confusion and hype can be easy to get caught up in, we have to use strong discretion as well as critical thinking skills to ensure that we don’t fall prey to this kind of confusion. At the point at which urban legend generated from tabloid sources becomes conflated with objective science we should be seeing the error of our ways.
However, this myth continues to remain a detractor for educators, scientists, politicians, and humanity as it persists in the media today as a way for climate deniers to rationalize global cooling rather than accept global warming. It is all too easily spurring inaction, dissent, controversy, and doubt. Further, it is doing an extreme disservice to much needed and yet sadly neglected societal consensus building regarding what we are actually facing in the coming extinction."

Which point did I miss, bunch of Old Croc? By the way, which year did the 1975 "study" name? 1978?
