Aloha and welcome!

Welcome home, Carrie! Maybe I'll get a chance to meet you when I'm there in a couple of weeks.
As to the ants...didn't you just have the place tented? We did too and when we first got in there were ants all over the place. John told us that they come in after the tent comes off to eat the termite carcasses. We used some boric acid and, sure enough, they were gone.
Aloha, neighbor!

I stopped by and visited Puna's new residents today (I had a spare key and some 'awa for them). Everyone seems to be doing fine, although Chuy seems the most confused by everything. He would bark at me, then be friendly and sniff my leg, then 5 minutes later, he'd be back to the barking. Its like he was saying "hey, everything is strange and new here -- and who are you again?" But he's the cutest little thing and seems to like exploring his new yard.

Hi Carolann R:

I hope you and your loved ones are settling in OK to your new surroundings. Don't let the rain scare you - don't forget that this is a rainforest.

The first week or so after my wife and I moved into our place about 2 years ago it rained so hard that I thought the house would float away like Noah and some apocalyptic flood. It sounded like thunder on our metal roof. I said to Tina "WHAT HAVE WE DONE?"

But a day or so later the sun came out and all was well. When it rains here it rains! Living in the rain forest has advantages. No need to water the lawn is one of them. Full catchments is another!

God bless you guys and enjoy your new home.

Andrew

Bienvenidos a Puna! er, i mean ALOHA!

Welcome to the best place on earth. Just remember the numebr one failing with utopian theory, a place that's perfect all teh time is actually hell, not utopia, think of that anytime you encounter any of Puna's bumps. Then remember how GREAT it is to live HERE.

Don't worry, if you start to get bored with paradise, after unpacking, and making new friends, and exploring and all that, Andrew and i will come over with a few centipedes and fix ya right up with our special hawaiian mental cleanse. A couple minutes of primal screaming and you'll be right back to enjoying yourself. Wink

Hazen

P.S. take good care of that Tony, soon as you guys need some extra cash i'll drive my jalopie over and we'll do some work-trade Carolann/Tony subsidizing! Just give me menu request a couple days in advance so i can hit the farmer's market!

Hey Carrie, Mom and Tony....Chuy too!!

So glad that it has been a wonderful and exciting journey and an adventure that is so worth taking! Was praying for your family there on the journey, I know it has been rough and a lot of fears, tears, worries and then Tony getting sick that you had oto work through, but you know what, you came out of it just like I knew you would.....happy and fulfilled amd loving it, but tired for the whole thing. A great thing for all of you. Just glad to hear that you made it fine and safe, that everything went well in the end!

Now the fun begins......

Aloha,
Lucy

Thank you everyone for such kind words and wishes. (Except Hazen who is a scary guy LOL!) We are doing well and the ants are being held at bay for now - actually watched a few of them try to carry off a dead beetle! They are Hawaiian ants afterall.

Got so much done today with the cleaning thing...borrowed the very nice neighbor lady's vacume - she said she didn't mind all the sucking up of bugs since that's pretty much the norm here, so I had a real bugfest today and feels good to be able to open a cabinet and not worry about the dead bug stuff in there LOL!

We love our little house and Chuy is having a blast checking out the cats across the way...he's only 6 pounds or so and thinks he's very much bigger. I suspect a time will come when the orange tabby (did I say HUGE) will put Chuy in his place not too harshly I hope. Haahaaa...

I love the rain, but am hoping the sunshine will poke through a bit here soon too.

After talking to my neighbor (who was actually president of the HOA here in the past) we've had to decide not to get chickens since she informs us they WILL find out and we WILL have to give them up. I don't know if I'm more disappointed that they are good buggers or that we will miss having very fresh eggs each day LOL!

Tony is doing much better and although still feeling it a bit in head and chest, he is laying back on the couch reading the local paper with a good cup of coffee...he's got a few weeks before he has to go to work at Big Island. It's unusual to see him so relaxed...very nice. Must be the new digs.
