WOW. AMAZING. Our power on and off a few times, but it was the lightning and thunder that got me. C-R-A-A-A-C-K-K!! Haahaaahaa...I actually yelped a couple times...but one loud crack got me in the night and I awoke with a scream escaping my throat ROFLOL! I grabbed Tony's arm (who woke up with an oblivious look on his face - how did that not wake him?!) and felt silly then went back to sleep.
This morning lots -o- cleanup of displaced lava cinder and plant debris up against the house...many snails headed for our papaya...they actually make a death noise when you sprinkle salt on 'em.
The sun acts as though it never happened...land smells fresh and all is green and beautiful.
P.S. Carey - your kitty is brave...poor little Chuy would've dug a hole in the carpet under the couch to hide if he could...it made him bark SOS all night.

I've never seen a thunder and lightning storm last for almost 8 hours. The rumble of the thunder shook our house more intensely than the earthquake. And we had several lightning strikes hit ground in our back yard. We are on 5th street in HPP. Our three cats took cover in our kitchen cabinets and wouldn't come out until this morning.

Power was off here in Central HPP from 6pm to 8:30 this morning. The lightning knocked one of my little Chinese guardian lions off the gatepost and we have a roof leak that we suspect may be related to the earthquake. Doggies terrified all night and shell-shocked this morning. The Bear and I have a crazy theory that the lightning was extra bad because of lingering static electricity from the quake. Any scientists out there with an educated opinion?

I guess the 'quake shifted my roof around. I've got several bad leaks where my kitchen attaches to the main house. Set up a row of buckets, had to empty them at 3 AM, sure glad I don't have sheetrock!

Just a suggestion: table salt is bad for most plants. If you use a very soluble fertilizer such as ammonium nitrate (no, do not bomb the snails and slugs!!), sodium nitrate, urea, etc. The plants will be happier and the snails and slugs will be just as dead.
Table salt is good for people and animals, in moderation, but is no more "organic" than the above fertilizers.
We are looking forward to when we can trade frequent hurricanes for, hopefully rare, earthquakes and hurricanes.

Seriously, not much damage from flooding here but did see some roads in HPP with plenty cinder runoff, and a BIG puddle in front of Cash N Carry's parking lot. Lost power 4-5 times, maybe more but we fell asleep and woke up to sunshine...

When I got to the house this morning and started to get things organized for the rocking crew, I found a leak in the front of the house just over the front windows. I’m glad the heavy rain hit now rather than after the rock was up! Also a good portion of our cinder driveway was washed out onto 13th and that mixed with what was coming down 13th to the low spot by the stop sign. Just bare rock on 13th now and a small canyon down the side of the driveway. About the only cinder left in the middle it the 1” to 2” stuff. I count my lucky stars that that is the extent of our suffering due to the last 2 days. Our hearts go out to those who have had greater grief to endure.

Just checked our rainguage, it goes up to 210 centimeters (which is above the 8 inch mark) & it was filled over that, to what I would gues was close to 9 inches (it was empty yesterday, and just under overflow today!) not a puddle in the yard, or around the neighborhood this morning....HOW??

We must be lightning magnets, because we got hammered again! This time two of our gate columns got hit, the transformer in front of our house got hit again, twice, and our house got hit sending a surge of electricity through one of the curcuits that lit up some of the lights for a second and tripped the gfi outlets.Lightning was striking so close to our house and so frequently that it felt like an earthquake. On the upside, we got about 4000 gallons in our catchment tank over night! It was about half full yesterday, and now it's full(10,000 gallon tank). It was pretty amazing to watch, but so loud that it was painful.
