Delta, American and United announced they will temporarily cancel all of their mainland China flights in response to the coronavirus outbreak, facing pressure from unions representing airline employees and new warnings from public health officials.

Just found out about “ili” state reporting. Influenza like illness.

“A patient with ILI must have the following: a fever (temperature of 100°F [37.8°C] or greater) AND a cough and/or a sore throat without a known cause other than influenza. ILI is based on reported symptoms and not laboratory confirmed tests; thus, ILI may represent other respiratory pathogens and not solely influenza.”

Chart showing Hawaii ili cases unusually high. 59% of cases out of 1600 flu tests came up negative for flu but showing ili. Sure would be nice if they could test for covid........

Cases of patients going in for ili spiking over last couple weeks, higher than in the states.

US, as of last night has done approximately 500 covid test nationwide since the outbreak in December.

They could, if they really wanted to know.

They don't want to know. Might affect our one-note economy.

Ok boomer? I'm sure all those flights from Africa posed a major risk (at least in someone's "raciest" mind - the most raciest, all the best racies). Note that the fatality rate for COVID-19 for the elderly is ~10% and whataboutism is not an effective treatment.

islandlvng - 59% of cases out of 1600 flu tests came up negative for flu but showing ili.

While interesting, if you look back at October 2019, ~87% of the ILI in Hawaii tested negative for influenza. In short, there are a lot of influenza like illnesses that don't test positive for influenza (to which we can now add one more)

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) released the following statement in response to the growing threat to Hawai‘i posed by the coronavirus known as COVID-19:

“The first responsibility of our leaders should be to protect the health, safety, and security of the people of Hawai‘i and our country. This is why we’ve temporarily suspended flights from China, which has been very helpful. But, more is needed in order to protect the people of Hawai‘i.

“In order to protect the people of Hawai‘i, we must now suspend flights from Japan and South Korea where the virus has been spreading. It is irresponsible for our leaders to endanger the health and wellbeing of Hawai‘i’s people by continuing to allow travel from Japan and South Korea.
