2022 Humpback Whale Count
#1
Big Island has a whale shortage.

This year’s Humpback Whale Ocean Count shows Oahu averaged 6.4 whales every 15 minutes, Big Island 1.4.  HPP had zero.  I think I’ve only seen 1 maybe 2 whales total so far this winter.

Been hearing whale slaps for a week now. Mostly at night.

We saw a couple along NW coast a few weeks back.

Should also be noted that they did not have the normal count of volunteers (only site leaders) at the sites for January... & will re-evaluate site staffing for the next 2 OceanCount events... & the islands have reduced volunteer count sites this whole year....

I watched 3 whales near Kaloli Point this morning!
Spouting, backs & tails rising out of the waves.
