Here is my research.

For the first time in 76 years I have gone over 2 years without a cold .

I am convinced that wearing a mask, sanitizing my hands and keeping my fingers out of my eyes have contributed to that.

And yet those who did their own research seeking TRUTH had the freedom to clear out the shelves of ivermectin at Tractor Supply, which was a drug not studied or peer reviewed for COVID.  As it turns out ivermectin worked as well as placebo, which is to say it probably got rid of worms and not much else, even though it was touted across social media as a miracle cure “with lots of studies and research and testimonials from that one guy who swears it fixed him up real good.”

Right and you can post that article, but if I posted the actual study or studies and discussed the statistics, and even politicization within the studies I would be deleted. I won’t waste my time or Robs any further, the standard is set such that you all can post whatever opinions or news articles that suit you and any actual studies and first party discussions will be immediately deleted. Here's some truth some of you newbies seem to miss...

Nineteen years ago I launched Punaweb so our little corner of the world could have a place to talk about life here in Puna and Hawaii. The only basic rule is to keep it Hawaii.

I have seen a lot go on here over these years. Often we have folks, like some present, who get the conspiracy theory that I, the moderator, disagree with their founts of wisdom and shut them down. It shows how self centered they are. I have observed that to a large degree those with the actual least to say (in Punaweb terms) seem to take up the most bandwidth. And then poof! They are gone.

So it may be too simple for some of you to handle but keep it Hawaii or take it somewhere else.

The article doesn’t provide a link to the actual study, and without that the article is just a bunch of words without foundation. So could you provide that link for me?  I am genuinely interested in checking out the specifics of that study.


Taking into account Rob’s directive, I recognize that neither the article or the study are Hawaii related. But you know the ropes as well as anyone so I will trust you to take the proper next step. I believe you should either provide the link that I m asking for or delete your post.

There are several years worth of discussions on Punaweb about “alternative COVID therapies.”  Who knows how many.  Rob was quite lenient in allowing a lot questionable miracle cures to be posted and discussed.  My point was not about the uselessness of ivermectin for COVID, but that a lot of ineffective and in some cases downright dangerous non-medical quack cures were posted here and to what end?  Finally we’re starting to see how worthless they were.

It was stated “truth is the truth and you choose to ignore it. Ignorance reigns supreme.”  Some COVID advice on Punaweb was anything but truth, and the wisest course of action was to ignore it.  Ignorance certainly reigned among those not following professional medical advice.  There’s good reason to shut it down.

It will be interesting to see how the results of the peer review turn out.  Might depend on who those peers are.
As we know, studies can be designed to show success or failure.  In this case, the dose was too low, given on an empty stomach, and way too late.  Other issues as well, described here:

Even so, they still were not able to show failure.  The study did show a modest improvement in the Ivermectin group, as opposed to “no indication that ivermectin was clinically useful” as claimed in the article.

Bottom line, this study doesn’t dispel any “myths”.  The debate will continue, although hopefully not here.

I do hope all of the Puna armchair virologists survived their self treatment and self medication.  I'm sure stories will be told for years to come at dinner parties from Volcano to Keaau to Pahoa and drum circles back in the jungle about someone who survived COVID with just an internet connection and a Chromebook.  Didn't need no doctor or NIH or CDC.  "Ohhh.  Ahhhh. Would you pass whatever it is you're holding this way?"

Yesterday I read the comments about the ivemectin study (at the link I previously listed).  The details had not even been released at that time, but surprisingly armchair virologists had already done their own research and posted dozens of reasons why the study was flawed or incorrect.  Perhaps they were mind readers as well?  People believe what they want to believe even before there's anything on which to to base their argument.
