We shoulda plugged some Puna-specific quackery during Covid. "Ohia-Honey in your tea cures Covid." "Fermented wild guava cures Covid." (Not really, but it would have been good for our economy, instead of the dewormer manufacturers making all the money!)

It bugs me that they blame the pandemic and not so much the government response to the pandemic.
People here dismiss the government's handling as a severe problem for people, but it definitely was.
From the beginning they should have reassured those at low risk instead of the constant fear mongering. closing down schools, and forcing kids to mask (still) when the benefit is not clear at all. Since i can't mention other specific places here besides Hawaii, well you know places with similar policies ended up with an extremely high death rate in the end despite everyone masking and social distancing etc.
Hawaii being an outlier has very little to do with Ige. High vaccine uptake had everything to do with the people here, not vax passports or anything else.

You can't uncouple them. Covid led to the response. The government in Hawaii didn't handle it any differently that other states did, at least initially. Or other countries, for that matter. No one had a crystal ball, they were doing what was thought to be best at the time.
An article last month said Alaska and Hawaii were rated as tops for being Covid safest over the past couple years, so geographic isolation was probably a factor to some degree.
In addition to a better vax uptake than most states, Hawaii has a relatively low obesity rate working in its favor.

Durian Fiend, I would tell you, but I can't really remember it. I guess it must have worked!
Malahini, depression and loneliness seem like pretty reasonable responses to everything we've gone through. I think it would be worse if a lot more family and friends had died.

There was a big anti mask rally in Hilo at the King Kamehameha statue today.
How many of you were there.
Big group at the Pahoa roundabout on Friday afternoons. Could yall wear name tags with your punaweb user names or put your user name on your signs ?

But will they still be protesting next week, after the mandate is gone? There must be something left to ***** about!

Will you still protest something in the morning?
Apologies to Carole King.

For those who would like to continue their protests, I’d like to offer my services as middleman and procurement agent for dead horses, suitable for beating. We locally source only the finest deceased equines, and for a premium price we’ll even locate specimens which passed on because owners were unable to buy and treat their stock with ivermectin, due to the shortage created when many people did their own research and self medicated.
Call now! The mandate is almost over, but we’ll help you fill the void left in your waking hours!

Ige has a few days left yet to extend the mandate. I hope he does. Can't be too careful.
