We saw it yesterday at the theatre.  Entertaining, beautiful animation.  Recommended.

Now showing on demand on PBS.

Waterman – Duke: Ambassador of Aloha
A great story with archival video footage and photos.  I loved the description of Hawaiians from all walks of life raising money, a dime here a quarter there, to send Duke to the mainland to prove his record time was accurate.  Five months later he was in Stockholm representing the US in the Olympics.

First time posting!

One of the most beautiful and inspiring movies I’ve seen in a long time:

“A Man Called Otto”

Tom Hanks

Netflix

I'll have to check it out. Hanks has only made one bad movie to my knowledge.... Joe vs. the Volcano.

Welcome HiloJulie,
I second your recommendation for A Man Called Otto.

For those who don’t mind subtitles, the original film was A Man Called Ove from Sweden, released in 2016.  Both versions are equally well made and throughly enjoyable.

I can't believe this was posted a year ago and I missed it. It has so many things that I like: Doctor Who, well thought magic, London architecture, totally believable police activity AND you can read through Hawaii Library's Ebooks and Kindle Unlimited - well, some of the books. You have to LOOK hard for some of them.
I have been saving the last I have access to, and there is one I don't have out after that.
RE: terracore "Let me know when it's on Netflix! "
I too imagined that it was be a great one for a Netflix project.

I suspect the word "movie" means something very different to you compared to everyone else.

Another Tom Hanks recommendation:
News of the World

Hanks plays a post Civil War veteran trying to make his way in the world through the dusty towns of Texas, now in transition from the Confederacy to a reunited America.
If you have Roku, download the Freevee app, the movie is free with commercials.
Freevee is also a free selection on Amazon Prime.

Seen any good movies a long time ago?

Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 42 years ago.
The Hawaii connection:

In summer 1977, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were on holiday together in Hawaii. Spielberg was keen on directing a James Bond movie but Lucas said “I’ve got something better than Bond…” and told him about his idea for a whip-cracking, globe-trotting archaeologist…

Spielberg and Lucas settled on the man they wanted and Tom Selleck was cast as Indy.  But, due to scheduling conflicts with Magnum P.I., Selleck had to pull out. Here is Tom Selleck’s screen test as Indy. (Sean Young is Marion)…

Spielberg had producer Frank Marshall drive round Hawaii looking for a mountain like the Paramount logo. It took Marshall hours, but eventually he found Mount Shubet.  Spielberg used the logo from the 1940s to tie in with the setting of the movie.
