How about selling, "Puna shares", each worth a portion of the pioneering spirit to the world and use the millions generated to fund community projects?

Maybe a "Pioneer Puna", theme park?

Cheers!

My only objection about pioneer spirit,is that it ususally tends to run over an already existing culture. As long as "pioneering" is done with forethought, not to just bring the same old things people left behind, but to actually think differently than they had before.Perhaps learn about the local culture. When in Rome do as the Roamns do,as the old saying goes.Lots of old timers and locals have already been appalled by unwanted changes to our neighborhoods. You use to be able to keep your dogs untied, drive with a chainsaw so you could get home when there was atree in the road,etc...Those days are gone.Let us not lose anymore of the ambiance/flavor that attracted you people here in the first place.Don't just come here and repeat what you did before. And going from suburian to rural is just not the only change. One must also change their perspective or at least be open to discussion about how to keep the green beautiful Hawaii, just that.

Yes, I sure do agree....no need to change everything to what you are accustomed to. And those who were here first do not need others to come and push and shove and discomfort them. Come with the spirit of adventure, love of learning, love for your fellow man, and service to community.
I will never find a finer person than my next door neighbor, a local man here most of his life. He has always shown how to be a good neighbor. I don't know how we could ever repay him for his friendship, help and just simply being patient with an older couple fresh from the suburbs of Oklahoma City with out a clue of how things were done here.
As some of you know, our plan is to sell and return to Oklahoma to be with our children and grandchildren..it has proven to be too far from them and they have requested our return.
I would have never have dreamed of what a great adventure and learning experience this would have become.
I am not saying goodbye at this time as we have to wind things up here but it will be in the near future.
Anyone who has the dream of moving to Puna should follow through and have the adventure even if for a short time. I don't think very many will regret it.

Actually they've been showing up since the 70's, thats why we left. My wife thinks we should all leave, and if you think you're seeing change, how about the locals, seeing so many people having to sell their places becase they can't pay the now high taxes, their incomes have dried up with the plantation and their kids had to leave because of no future. The tools you buy at walmart and hd are cheap, but if you are only going to build one small house or for home use, do you buy a 600$ chop saw or a 150$ one. For 200 bucks you can get a combo skillsaw, reversable drill, recip saw, jig saw, chain saw and light in 18 volt with 2 batteries and charger in ryobi quality, or the same package in top line dewalt for over a grand? Depends on need, today we can buy things we only dreampt of when we really only had mamo trader to go to. They are one place i will miss, they had everything imaginable, but beyond most folks budget. The big boxes give people things that they couldn't have otherwise. Plus they all pay better than anyone but union outfits. My wife did want to return, but the walmart really sealed our move in 08.
