As it's still federally illegal I doubt of you'll get growers to sign anything. Many are afraid to get the license for fear it will just be a hit list in the future on some federal drug raid.

And you thought we lived in a free country.

Aloha Maud,

Here is a multiple choice, choose your poison!

1. Alcohol
2. the Herb
3. the Vog

Not to change the subject or put a cooler on it, but has anyone been following the death penalty discourse? You know the current debate, one, two, three drugs administered to do the deed, who does the loading and on and on. Sheesh, how about a load of heroin. We're paying the price in Afghanistan so we should be getting the pure, or is that the clear?? Someone is making a bunch off the drug combos?

I am personally against the death penalty, however that being said, an overdose of heroin perhaps would be the most humane. Too simple, too cheap, what.

Where do we join the bud club Bud?

Oh and one last comment, loved Tahunatics throw the carcass in the lava flow and truley become part of the BI! LOL For me I've decided to support the food chain and be fish food!

Hawaii has no death penalty, only a few remaining barbarian countries still have it, which we are one.

Texas stands alone [*]

But yes you would think one Hot shot would be more humane if you were to kill in the name of the "law"

God said, "Thou shalt not kill"

Supreme court or state courts, notwithstanding.

Great posts all around.

Re. State executions...

Really folks, how can we justify allowing the State to kill even one innocent person. We all know innocent people are convicted in our courts.

Maud, re. your thoughtful post.

Yes, heavy pot smokers in some instances, develop a mild form of bronchitis. It goes away two weeks from cessation of smoking.

This is about the only health problem documented in studies of heavy pot smokers.

Vaporizing eliminates the smoke and has become quite the thing for many people.

Kaiser did a 60,000 person study which showed no relation between pot smoking and lung disease.

Pohaku's quote from DEA Administrative Judge sums it up pretty well.

for the civilized country that we are suppose to be known for. We sure love to throw our citizens in jail and then throw away the key[Sad!] We have more people in our prisons than any other country in the world! Talk about an anal society!

It reminds me when Bilbo Clinton was president and the Monica Lewinsky fiasco that followed his last days in office. More than half of this country's citizens were blown away and offended by Bilbo's action. All during the time this was going down, the rest of the world was laughing at us, especially Asia. I kept trying to tell my anal retentive right wing friends that this type of behavior was the norm, not the exception. Hey, since the begining of time this has been a symbol of power.
My only problem with this was. Here we have argulably the most powerful person in the world...why Monica Lewinsky? [:o)] With all the women in the world, why a loud mouth fat girl? Hey, but who am I to say. You know what they say about fat girls? Fat girls are like Mopheads, fun to ride, but you never want your friends to catch you on one!

Anyway, back to topic. Let's face it, Marijuana is here to stay. So why fight it? It should be embraced, taxed, and enjoyed. [:p]

Let me start by saying that I smoked a lot of dope in my teens and twenties. I even sold the stuff, quantities of 1/4 lb., so that I could sell three oz., smoking the fourth oz. as my profit. I also have to say that, on balance, we'd probably be better off as a society by legalizing private use of marijuana, taxing it, and treating it, and all forms of drug abuse, as a medical problem.

Having said that, I am a proponent of honesty. If you want to get high, say that you want to get high. Don't hide behind "medical use" of marijuana if you have no medical issues. Depression, eczema, dandruff, back pain, gas, hangnails, and other such ailments are sometimes used to get a Rx for medical marijuana from physicians who have an agenda, and which can be treated with lots more effective therapies than smoking dope. If marijuana increases the appetite in people who have lost their appetite due to chemo or radiation therapy, I'm all for that. If there is a connection between reducing the effects of glaucoma and marijuana, I'm all for that, too. But I think many people, some on this website, are perfectly healthy, but just want to get stoned. If that's the case, make an argument for the legalization of marijuana, not for the medical use of marijuana.

Secondly, it is pie-in-the-sky ignorance to state that smoking dope is good for you, or even to state that it does no harm. Do some Googling, and you can find all kinds of legitimate medical studies that link marijuana use to some health problems which are fairly benign (slight to moderate loss of memory, increased sore throat and bronchitis) to some really nasty health effects (decreased immune system effectiveness, increased head and neck cancers, three-to-fourfold increase in the risk for heart attack, etc.) Here is a link to the National Institutes of Health postition on marijuana use, supported by peer-reviewed clinical studies: http://www.nida.nih.gov/Infofacts/marijuana.html

Again, I want to say that I believe on balance we'd be better off legalizing marijuana use for the private citizen, for several reasons. I just don't think it's intellectually honest to say some of the things that I've heard said here. For example, an impaired driver is an impaired driver, whether he's drunk, frying on acid, wasted on Xanax, or stoned on marijuana. I don't want to share the same road with anybody who's impaired for any reason, and you're bull****ting yourself if you think you're not impaired when you're stoned. You're not bull****ting me, because I've been stoned lots of times, and I know firsthand how it effects my senses and reactions.

Aloha to all, good luck with a legalization campaign. Just keep it honest, and you'll gain more respect and support from people who are also discouraged with filling our courts and prisons with people who are charged with simple posession.

How do I know?
Aloha! ;-)

WOW Mgeary, what a post. You couldn’t have said it better. I think the issue is that if you want pot legalized then fight for it, until then no matter what your position is, it’s illegal. My major drawback to legalization is that we allow another drug to become socially acceptable to our children. I also support your position of those on this web site who try to justify driving stoned. Check some of the past posts that claim that they would rather be on the road with a stoned driver then a drunk driver. That’s like saying that I would rather play Russian roulette with a 22 cal. instead of a 38 cal. Hey you know what they will both cause bodily harm and or kill you. It’s not either it’s neither. As you can see I also back your position not to share the roads with any impaired drivers. [:I]

I rather face a pot stoned driver than an idiot who just got in a fight with his o'lady and is in a rage, or vise versa.

OR the idiot who's rushing home to beat everyone else to their/his house to catch the news.

Or the idiot who was up all night driving and half a sleep.

But MOST of all, ANYONE on the phone while driving has half their brain on the task at hand ( controlling a dangerous weapon, ) and talking BS with the other hand. I love the women who use their left hand to hold the phone and obstruct their rear view mirror the most.

Mgeary, if you were selling it who were you selling it too?

And I didn't notice the M.D. after your name either.
