A different angle. Cigarette and booze taxes are maxed out, Cigs are getting less use. For any tax loss there is going to be a replacment.

We know there have been few crimes or violence commited on just pot. Crack increaed crime and violence Ice is even worse. Pot makes slow drivers. The rest scramble brains!

But since the shipping crackdown beginning with greenharvest has been in effect.

Since green harvest, growers who previously made money and spent it in town plenty of it but with the new crackdowns on shipping, the problems began. Worse even than the intrusive police raids.

Growers are afraid to ship off island. Then began the coke and crack dealers, coming here to trade goods with the growers. Even black heroin was on the exchange. These dudes weren't afraid to ship, they are true criminals.
Growers, previously big spending customers in town on autos, property, build houses etc., Hard drugs are the currency, What little cash they have they spend off island. If they make the exchange and sell the new poison they deserve the max.
Alcohol prohibition wasn't repealed because of a new thirst for freedom, It was because the country was in a recession and this gave a whole new revenue source. The war sealed it's tax status. Plus it gave reason for a domestic cia, "the FBI". they survived prohibition and still thrive. Same with drugs today. I hope pot is hit about with beer and wine. The rest like sweedish income tax,(90%).

Today you can make your own wine or beer, tax only when sold. D'ya think however the DEA is going to dissolve!

But I do think this is the best possible scenario for repeal, best chance yet. People have been talking reason to deaf ears forever. When you can order research and tell them what they must prove, not very strong, but it's worked so far. One thing they know well is tax revenue, and incomes are tapped dry. A drug tax, what an idea. (freedom through taxation).

Recession is a very good possibility!

Wow this topic is still going. Cool.. As I read through the thread I see a bunch of positive things being attributed to weed, and rightfully so. I guess my position is more in that of a comparative analysis between weed and beer.

Kinda long the lines of if bubba can have his six pack then why can't I have my phatty. Of course this is more along the "it's my body and my right" line of thought. I just really struggle with the double standard and its application. Anyway, as I stated earlier if you get this club off the ground I'd be happy to lend a hand or lung in the quality control area. With so many of us either pro-pot, or at least tolerant, why is our government still putting people in jail for this "crime"?

I always thought, back in the late 60's , when I was a teenager, that things would be very different when I got to the "In Power" age. It's different all right.... MUCH WORSE!

Try voting for the youngest person running for political office, then you'll see changes soon enough. I wish the boomers would just retire already! Their hogging all the good jobs and all the social security. They have made a mess of the world.

The "War On Certain Drugs" is mainly a war on the poor/minorities to control them by getting them stuck in the justice system. Why do drug offenders lose the right to vote, ability to get Federal loans etc? Also to make some people rich through the prison industrial complex, drug testing industry, rehab industry etc. and protect drug company profits. How do you patent/copyright pakalolo? Since you can't and anybody could grow it Phizer can't make no money of it so keep it banned. Why are the vast majority of drug arrests for pakalolo possession? Not to mention it was grown in WW2 for the war effort..."Hemp for Victory" as I recall.

Bodysurf,

Good post and all very true.

However, as I've mentioned before in posts, the war on drugs is mainly a price support system.

The difference between pakalolo and drink and ice are huge, but they are all unskillful practices when not used as medicines.

If you take these drugs to alter your reality you are only continuing your suffering and most times making it worse.

It would be sad if there was a club here. Why people need to escape such natural beauty I will never know. The ancient Hawaiians only had the mild 'awa and that is all they needed. There is a very fake and superficial spirituality here. Oh well.
