Interesting property.
I'm baffled that the address could be Piha Kahuku Rd (check the TMK map h32002) We call it Church Rd, but part at least is referred to as Government Rd.
Yes, some of the worst VOG we've seen this past week.

Yes, I have a map book of East Hawaii and it shows Piha-Kahuku is south of the park and the road north of the Park is called Kahuku and it also reads, Government Rd in parenthesis. It was getting us very confused when we were there driving around. We tried to find two other properties on Piha-Kahuku and never could find them. We drove about three miles up that road. How far up do you live?
P.S. Sorry to hear about the VOG. We were hoping it would be far enough away to not get affected by it. [

went to the big island yesterday to have our land/lot up at mauna loa estates, volcano, and NO VOG. on our way up, the VOG was sitting over glenwood and that was it. returned to a very hazy/voggy (is that a word?) o'ahu. could barely make out the island.

Yep, I think I know which properties. One(17.2 acres) is next to last lot on Piha Kahuku, although I've not been that far. Another (6.5 acres) you get to from Piha Kahuku - 1000ft Rd - Stone Rd, just past the house with 11.2 acres for sale.
We about about a mile up, 1100ft elevation - kinda across from 1000ft Rd.
VOG was bad again today - geez, you'd think we live in Kona.

Back to the electrical BIL helping with the Hawaii house question - if your BIL could do some of the electrical work such as drilling the studs for the wire runs, setting the boxes, etc. that would save the electrician some time and effort and might get you a better deal. You would have to ask the specific electrician if they would be willing to let your BIL be an assistant. Or you could see if the electrician would do a "time and materials" contract and have your BIL help save on the "time" part of the contract.

Thank you Hotzcatz. That was very helpful. I'll keep those things in mind when the time comes. Anything to cut down on costs to help us build that dream house!
