Movie Recommendation
#21
Hi Stillhope:

Where we are we don't get TV cable and the trees are too tall for a sat dish so we live without TV. Give me trees over TV any day!! Sooo we use Netflix and yes it's great. You can select your movies in an on-line website and they arrive by mail. There are no late fees. When you finish a movie you just send it back in the prepaid supplied envelope. They have some 80,000 titles to choose from. We like stuff that isn't that common and they seem to have a great selection which has kept us steadily entertained for the past 3+ years. There are different plans available. Our plan allows us to have 5 DVDs out at a time as well as instant watch movies over the Internet. Our plan is $31.19/month. There are cheaper plans as well.

Blockbuster has similar programs with one advantage. Besides DVDs by mail and movies on-line you can also pick up and return DVDs to any of their retail locations. So if you commute to Hilo regularly you can return DVDs there and avoid the time it takes to mail them.

Take care,
Andrew

Dirk - does "Station Agent" have the guy who played in "Nip Tuck?" He's a dwarf? If so, it was amazing!

Carrie

I haven't ever seen an episode of Nip Tuck, but the main character in Station Agent is a little person who had a train station willed to him. I'm assuming we're thinking of the same movie. We watched it and then immediately went out and bought it.

Other countries produce some wonderful movies - like World's Fastest Indian (yes, Hooligal, we finally saw it!!) from New Zealand.

That's IT!! We LOVED that movie...he's an awesome actor too!!

(I think dwarf is PC - or person of small stature...hope I didn't offend.)

That's actually the kind of IFC-type movie we really love to watch.

"Dwarf" refers to the mythical creature. "Dwarfism" refers to the medical condition. "Little person" is what they prefer to be called (which is why their largest political and social organization is known as "Little People of America").

Trivia Fact: Little People of America was started by the actor, Billy Barty.

Thanks for the clarity, John. I will not refer to little people as dwarves...I can see where it would be offensive.[B)]

(It WAS a fabulous movie, though!)

Ihave not read all the recomendations but I love this post. So I am including a list of my favorites. I love foreign films and would watch one over a typicall Holywood Blockbuster any tme!

The Scent of Green Papaya was the first foreign film I rented on my own. It was actually the FIRST film I rented on my own. I was naturaly drawn to foreign and independent films. I have a horrible memory for details like titles and cast. I remember the plot and events, the emotion and drama more than anything else. The essence of the movie...However these are some that I can remember. Enjoy!

Children of Heaven
Water
Ma Vie En Rose
City of God
Fire
Paradise Now
Earth
Nowhere in Africa
Tsotsi
