Puna Loses Again: Puna 0 Hilo 4
#31
The question is why did Council Member Naeole vote AGAINST a bill that could add another elected voice for Puna?
What would those proposed redistricted lines accomplish? How would the districts represented by Jacobsen, Yoshimoto, and Naeoli be reconfigured?

Jacobsen and Yoshimoto have defined constituencies.
Naole has a yet to be determined constituency. Her's is more a reaction to former councilmember (lc by choice) Gary Safarik...

It seems to me that Emily's Legislative Aides have much to do with the quality of her actions/votes . Now that Tiffany Edwards has returned, there is more newsworthy activity. Barbara Hale was an embarassment, Tif's replacement during maternity leave had alot to be desired... at least in my dealings with her.

I want to know what went into Emily's thinking on this matter? What did she consider pro and con before casting her vote? I want to see this information on paper, written in her own hand, if possible.

FYI! Mark Sunday, August 24, HPP Activity Room 2pm SHARP! Primary Candidates Forum for 5th Council District. The format will be similar to the Forum 2 yrs ago.
Aloha all,
Barbara

Hello Kale

Thank you for raising that point...I'm curious to hear Emily's rationale for making that decision.

I have a question for you though- would you vote for or accept a County Council salary raise should you be elected?

Aloha Jen-ay,
No, I would not have voted for the pay increase if given that option. I don't believe that raises are in order at this time given the economic climate on this moku (island). There are too many programs where those monies can be redirected.

Mahalo for the question....Kale

"Would you have" is a non-question. For example, I would have picked the right lottery number if I had only known what it was before everyone else.

This is a question:
If elected, will you introduce legislation to rescind the 22% increase in Council salary?

James its a done deal so we should move on....and look ahead to solving more pressing issues for Puna. You should know better....you were a Legislative aide for a brief time.....

Oh, sorry I even brought it up... er, I didn't because you didn't answer Jen'ay's question the way you answered mine.

Keep smiling. If you stay in politics -- public service of any kind -- you gonna get have to get used to explaining yourself... alot.

btw:

"Legislative aide for a brief time..."

For the record and purposes of my own hopeless compulsion for accuracy, I worked as a Hawaii County Council Legislative Assistant (not the same as an "Aide") for exactly 12 months: June 1, 2005 - May 30, 2006.
If it is relevant to the topic, other policy and legislative experience includes 5 years with the State Government of South Australia as a Policy and Planning Economist (rural industry/agriculture development) and as Senior Policy Analyst (mass transit).

Back to the topic of Bill 276......

I received this response from Tiffany Hunt ( Emily Naeole's Legislative Assistant) this morning:

Hi Rob,
I hope this finds you well. Checked on Bill 276. It was a proposed Charter Amendment renaming the Reapportionment Commission the Redistricting Commission. This was while I was out. Let's see, spoke to Auntie Em, she said she voted against the measure because she didn't think it was necessary; she didn't want to "confuse people. People are already confused" about reapportionment, etc., she said. Hope this is helpful.
Have a good day.
Tiffany

And this response is going to make us less confused? I'm confused about who's really confused here.

Cheers,

Thank you council lady for my new signature[^]

"Confused"... now that is the "pot calling the kettle black" if I ever heard.
