If they stick it to Hawaiian, then from what I can see Hawaiian needs being stuck! If after all that cash awarded to Hawaiian from Go, and the obvious windfall that the closure of Aloha has provided them, they can not make their pilots feel really good then Hawaiian deserves to fold. Taking care of their employees should be Hawaiians number one priority.

by the way, this wasn't a United rep on the phone. It was a United crew person in uniform that I bumped into in Waikoloa. I thought maybe there had been a buyout and I'd missed the news. I miss a lot of things.

Unions are good to a point. Many times Unions can get too big and try to grab too much money and drive the businesses that employ their workers out of business. Then what do they do? You can look at Steel manufacturing in the rust belt. It used to be a great business and workers made a good living, but they pushed for too much money and benefits and those companies went out of business or went foreign. Now those workers are scrabbling to find anything. Of course without them companies could take advantage of their workers and they've pushed for some great reforms that have made life better for everyone. So like everything... good in moderation.
Everything seems to be hanging on a thread right now. Here's hoping to a rebound to the economy!

How very correct. Unions, in their day were a great thing and they made the work place safe and profitable for the common worker.

Yep.. you can damn sure thank the unions for unchecked greed. Sounds like your one of those guys that profited from it to. Unions are the reason most businesses in The US got out sourced. You got to be kidding me.. to print this trash in a public forum... Note.. most people here can read and arn't stupid. Yeah unions were good in their time as you stated but greed, corruption and lack of concern for their Country is why every thing we get comes from somewhere else.

I guess you are one of those guys eh?? Actually taking care of their passengers should be their number one priority along with safety and a few other things BEFORE over paying their pilots to take extended naps and get drunk in the lounge.
Unions.... what a joke!! And yes I dealt with unions before right up until I ran their lazy no working butts off my job site in turn saving my employer thousands of dollars putting out a better product and actually getting the jobs finished on schedule. But then again that was in a right to work state where men work for a living!

The biggest problem with unions is that their leaders have no clue about the business world. They are willing to fight for a $50/hour shoe factory job for their memebers and the workers there want to pay $10 for the shoes in the stores. Unions used to serve a purpose but their only purpose is to line the pockets of their leaders now.

You're probably right John R. I shouldn't be so harsh on the workers. The work ethic, or lack of it, was the direct result of the incompitent leadership. I actually feel sorry for the guys that showed up for work only to find doors locked and the job lost to some over seas company. It's been years since I had to deal with that stuff, but to have to hold up an entire job site to wait for some guy to fly in and screw in a light bulb.. (Hypothetical) Geez what a mess..

Anti Union - GUILTY, but not anti labor (meaning work/worker), I do believe in the right to work. I've a pretty much blue collar upbringing.
My grandfather was a union leader back in the pre-Depression, New England mill days.
My Dad was a union electrician, but used to proudly state he never missed a payday - even when the union couldn't find him a job.
WOW - ditto the good stuff I didn't get to post.
Unions used to be honorable, but have outlived their usefulness by more than 50 years.
Todays unions have played a major role in our increased cost of living, the sad situation of our healthcare, deterioration of service, and higher taxes due to the unionization of government workers. WOES- we all suffer here in Hawaii.
