Grapes

It's official ... I'm not getting e-mail. I'll call MSN Monday to see if they can help. I've got two beautiful 3' Samoan ulu picked out Catz and they're waiting for a home if you want them but first we'll need to be able to communicate.

You also asked about commodities and I think what you really wanted to know was my read on inflation linked to costs in the general economy. Today the Dow Index broke below 12000 pts. to close at circa 343 pts. Any retraction in the Dow beyond 100 pts. is considered by traders a failure signal and today we have three times that plus the Index has broken below support set at 11785 and any three consecutive 'down days' becomes problematic for bulls. Why do I mention the Dow and not oil or corn or gasoline? Because there's no better indicator signifying the general health of the economy than the Dow coupled with the Nasdaq and the S&P. Monday is key - if the index retracts further and actually breaks the sideways consolidation to the downside (which has been a form of stability for the broader markets) then we're going to see a even more ramping-up on the inflationary end. We're at a key point right now since I believe we may have transited over the Elliot Wave Grand SuperCycle Top set a few months ago (you may want to Google that for a description and what it may mean ... or you could go to SpiritofTruth.org [or maby it's dot com], for perhaps the best and the most dire prediction. Anyway Catz ... the heyride is essentially over and I believe we're actually going to see $2oo+/ barrel in the not-to-distant future and if that is the case; we as a society are about to go through a 'restructuring process' & of course food, potable water and homes & security are going to be at the top of most people's list.

OK, I need help! The grape are doing great, so great that they have a couple of 'arms' that (I swear) grew over a half foot in the last few days..... They're reaching out grasping for things, but I don't have anything for them!

I need input on arbors....
Has anyone done a grape arbor here?
Can I do an overhead one?
What is the best material to use (can I use plastic stuff or aluminum, or is wood best, & then what type?
Are grapes near a pool (within 15') OK? (this is a future dream...)

Oh, & how/when do you trim these guys?

You can take cuttings from grapes like most other plants so you've got the genetic source right there. I do that occasionally ... I just stick something in the ground or a pot and start taking cuttings (which are in a pot also) and then eventually they end up in the right place... or you could construct a trellis ... that information is probably of no help. At least you appear to have a healthy plant and that's a start ... but will it give fruit? Oh the trials and tribulations of the Puna garden!
