Vandalised Jeep
#11
I hadn't been here very long before someone told me that if my vehicle ever broke down, don't leave it on the road, any road. First night it would be stripped, second night trashed, third night burned. Wasn't too many months later that someone left a little white car on the road right on the property line just down from my front gate. True to what I had been told, the first night it was stripped, second night trashed, then it disappeared before the third night burning. The odd thing was, even though it was so close to my gate, and I should have been able to hear anything strange going on down there, I never heard a sound even though the second night all windows were smashed out, which had to take some fairly violent force. And, I wonder, are these spur-of-the-moment crimes, or are there those who routinely cruise, looking for unattended vehicles? Things that would never occur to me are apparently just normal life for some -- funny world we live in.

use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

I have had two different rental cars break down while over the years and it was terrifying each time. One was only left for a few hours just outside Black Sands Beach neighborhood but the other was left overnight on Pohoiki Rd. Alamo couldn't get Ken's to pick it up till the next morning and I couldn't get any sleep thinking it would be torched. (this is where I should suggest not to rent Jeep Wranglers from Alamo - both times that is what broke down. Both had less than 30K miles. My '95 Wrangler has 180,000 miles and NEVER breaks down!)

Cars get vandalized everywhere. It is just dumb stupid "kids" out having their version of fun. They don't realize how bad it sucks till they are older & some one f's with their stuff that they worked hard to pay for.

And Christian, I am not trying to be rude or anything but Mexifornia comes off as kinda nasty. I guess you are referring to the fact that there are a lot of Mexicans in California. It just seems derogatory. I am sure you didn't mean it that way. I am in LA quite often visiting family and have heard the term used a lot and it usually doesn't have a good intent. Really, not trying to be mean but just didn't know if you knew that term could be interpreted as offensive.

Peace.

Well I never said I expected Hawaii to be flawless or anything even close. The original post made a reference to that aloha thing but it wasn't aimed at Hawaii, but at mankind itself.

Vandalism is sad and I cannot understand what motivates it.

By the way. I hope there's AAA over here... ;-) I've seen cars torched and that is why I tend to have AAA in case I need a tow.

What's ETA in your book?

christian, there's AAA Hawai'i. They have the higher tier membership that gives you the long distance towing you need on this island.

In answer to your question -- ETA is internet speak for Edited to Add ... to show why I edited the post, i.e. not because I said a bunch of stuff that I felt bad about afterwards and needed to delete, but had an additional thought after submitted. [Smile]
