700 Billion Dollar Bail Out Plan Does Anyone Care?
#61
Hmmm keeping you from being blown up...

if you remember after 9/11 everyone... I mean EVERYONE said it was just the beginning.. that the US was about to have bombs going off daily...

Well, its cheaper to get to Iraq or Afghanistan then to the USA, so they all go there and not Hawaii.
Better to fight a war on someone else's real estate.

Ya, but Jay, not all business can possibly go to a cash basis. Car dealers need credit to obtain inventory, Farmers and ranchers need credit and credit lines to obtain stock, seed, fertilizer and equipment. We can't feed the country anywhere from only local farms, to many mouths period. Free up the credit, then for the banks into full disclosure. As long as the banks don't trust each other, let alone we don't trust them, credit will stay dried up. I have friends in business with Stellar credit who are having their credit lines curtailed to the point they can't do business. And these are local banks.

I didn't make up the rules. I'm simply personally adapting to the reality of the future. The problem is too big to be fixed. What we're seeing is a global run on central banks and the central banks are bust. All one can do at this point is buy a little time, and it doesn't look like the bailout will buy much.

I'd advise business people not to borrow money to put stuff on the shelf that people won't be able to afford to buy without credit either.

Jon, I watched the reason for that war go from, Sadam has WMD, to he practice torture and oppresses his people, to stopping Al-Quada, who were not there, to the current BS reason. Step up security here at home, no problem, lose American lives over there for the flavor of the week reason. No.

Well those farmers and ranchers aren't putting anything on the shelf that won't get bought. I would really not see us reduced to eating "long pig" anytime soon. Grocery stores everywhere use credit to stock shelves. I don't like buying time, but if it enables us to effect some essential changes in the banking system, I don't see we have much choice. Food riots and mobs in the street are a real possibility if we can't feed those 300 million folks most of whom do not live anywhere that they can subsistence live.

again... you are not everyone. I watched also. closely as I have and have had friends and family there. Not only is it working out well... once we are done there, we will have to do it again next door.

Otherwise, what keeps China from annexing Hawaii?

I agree.

The only place we disagree is whether there is a fix than can be applied.

I'm not planting Uala, potatoes, taro and the rest into the dark hours as a recreational activity. . .

I'm not opposed to our military in any way. Protect us from foreign invaders of course. Nor am I a pacifist. What i am opposed to is the continuing costs in American lives and dollars in a war we did not need to begin with. And as former military I'm more that a little upset over what has happened to the Geneva convention during this war. If we practice torture, what stops our next foe from doing the same.
Jon, lets take the war off this post.

Jay, I know of your efforts toward local sustainability, but that just won't work for the entire nation, without huge loss of life. We may be able to have a sustainable economy Hawaii, but its an island economy, and what is possible in hawaii just won't work to feed the nation.
