HPP under attack!!!!

So, the mathmatical equation for Aloha is:
(Burglary + thievery + Larceny) + tolerance = Aloha?

Oh now I get it.

esnap, Obviously you don't get it. Between the extremes lie a lot of territory for realistic approaches to problems. It is not as simplex as you try to make it sound. In your point, as expressed, it appears that the choices are summary execution versus a pat on the head. Try to think a little bit harder.

All this bluster and nonsense about guns and bullets between the eyes is a great way to encourage people to avoid taking responsibility for the problem of crime, mostly non-violent property crime, in our neighborhoods.

None of you armed with pistol, rifle or shotgun will effectively deal with the crime problem except in your imaginations. Dealing with the problem will require that your leave your T.V.s and meet with your neighbors to organize neighborhood watches, to lobby and pressure the county administration to become proactive regarding theft and to personally support, with your time and money, community efforts to deal with the issue.

Claiming that the issue of crime only affects you when the thief arrives at your door and you can deal with it with a gun (thank you very much) is itself nearly as anti-aloha as the burgler himself. You neatly avoid the problems that your neighbors suffer because as long as that thief goes somewhere else then you think you have succeeded - but in fact you have failed to act a responsible citizen and take an active role in your community's safety.

One could ask just who is lazier... the thief who avoids working to meet his needs or the vigilante who avoids working to meet his community's needs.

Assume the best and ask questions.

what if the person next door is the person ripping people off? we all need a way to protect our family. these people ripping people live by someone. ive noticed that the ones stealing have friends in their area watching out for each other and are just waiting to rip someone off.

Obviously (according to some) you should shoot them and burn down their house.

The problem is the same whether it is next door or the next block. Communities and neighborhoods that tolerate crime have crime. Thank God we don't have gangs like the Crips and Bloods to deal with. What we mostly have are uneducated dummys.

When you want to exterminate vermin, all the meetings and feel good "community centric it takes a village malarkey" will leave you short.
It takes a multi-pronged approach based on simple absolutes.

1. Make the best attempts to burglar proof your home.
2. Look out for your neighbors.
3. prosecute the perps to the fullest extent.
4. terminate them when you catch them on your property.
5 find and prosecute people fencing the loot.

The only difference between the robbers in HPP and a government welfare program, is that they are cutting the middleman out.

You get a big HEAR-HEAR for that statement.

Better get ready for one of the biggest robberies in the history of the late great US of A and even if you are well armed with guns it will not matter. CHANGE is in the wings just chomping at the bit with their law writing robbers. This you can not protect yourself from, even with guns, at least not for the next four years.

Umm... the Thief.
the vigilante has to pay for all his "stuff" and pay for the gun/weapon he choses. You have to assume it was worked for. There is also the constant vigilance needed as Thief only needs to be succeed once, vigilante has to succeed every time.

The community is a distribution responsibility, not requiring 100% of any one persons time.

Being flippant, doesn't cut it.

We live on a dead end off Maku'u. The only traffic that 'should' drive down that far would be friends, deliveries, invitees.
Our dogs bark 1st... DOGS... get peoples attention.People case neighborhoods... If the vehicle is driving slowly, looking at your property, go say hello... if they speed up, phone a description in to the Pahoa/Keaau Police... keep your own records.
ATV's are prohibited on HPPOA Rds. That said, HPPOA has NO enforcement capability. When you see ATV's on any HPPOA road, call the above named police depts. Note the street they are on, and call into the HPPOA office. Demand the office keep a record of your call and the disposition of the call. If the office is not responsive, come to a Bd. meeting the 3rd. Wed. of every month, 6pm sharp, and put in your 2 cents during 'Owner Input'.

Sound like too much effort?
The only way you/we are going to get attention to these problems is by reporting them and holding people accountable.

The last jerk cruising our end of the road, swore at me after I got his license plate no., and ripped off down the road.

I reported it to Pahoa Police, the license no. I gave them was registered to another vehicle, not the one cruising the neighborhood.
Insist on making a report.

I think there are still only 6 officers on duty per shift in the Pahoa/Keaau area.

Now's the time to LOBBY the police department, apply for the police commission, get a PRESENCE out here. Keep track of those cruising ATV's . Snap a photo, if someone menaces you, get their photo too... just be cool about it. ATV's are NOT permitted on HPP roads.

Rob,
We are all very different people with different back grounds and experiences.

But I tell you what, If I had Jon, Dick Wilson, The Lack, Big Island and Oink as my immediate neighbors, I know I could sleep well at home or away. I know that I could leave my doors unlocked so they could borrow a needed tool if I was out of town.

But if all my neighbors were pacifistic anti gun types, I would have extra stress worrying about my safety.
