This is my rifle, this is my gun.....

Many have made comments to the effect of "don't look like a target, then the crooks will go elsewhere". Others have said "lets set something up to look like a target, so the crooks will come and we can catch them".

The second policy is what would really deter crime. It is hard to argue against the first though as being better than nothing, at least for yourself. Would it actually make things worse overall, or better since there would on average be fewer "victims" out there?

Glen I have a feeling that you putt from the rough, and walk a little light in your loafers, but it’s cool this is Puna.

I think you're totally wrong there Tommy Boy. I think he made the comment because of the Hawaiian Culture, not because of his sexual preference!

So far we have (not in order of posts, # of posts, or importance):

Community watch, organized or just neighbors watching out for each other.

Video cameras / Alarm systems

Guns / 2x4's / or weapon at hand

Drug Education and prevention

Increase of priority with HPD / more patrol officers

Ho'oponopono or cultural resources

So far some are preventative, some are reactions and some are both ways.

Any other ideas ?

It's not just a question of making the crooks go elsewhere, it's also to make it harder for them so that hopefully at some point they think: this just isn't worth it.

Individually we can't stop state-wide or nation-wide crime, but we can stop it at our house, maybe in our neighborhood. Now if everyone did the same, problem solved, or at least diminished.

I just saw that Cost U less has motion sensor lights that have cameras built into them. They look pretty much like regular sensor lights but not exactly. They're Halogen, very bright. Anyway they don't look like cameras. Maybe when they make them look exactly like ordinary sensor lights I'll buy one. about 125 bucks.

Speaking of Cost U Less...

What is that store? Is it locally owned? What kind of things do they carry? Every time we pass it, it appears to be VERY crowded.
