Turbo tax is great if your taxes are relatively simple. Say if you are a homeowner and itemize, and you have medical deductions.
If you have a business or businesses and lots of investments, a CPA may find more deductions, but I am quite confident I took all my deductions with Turbotax. An accountant can't find deductions that don't exist, so if your affairs are pretty simple it's a waste of money.
The Premier package, which includes rental property, has a feature called Its Deductible which takes you through pages and pages of obscure possible deductions, and although I've done it, I've never had one of those be relevant to me, other than the basic charitable deductions.
Yes, Turbo Tax is set up to do more than one state. With the package I bought, you get one state download for free, pay for additional. When you are done with one state, it asks if you want to do another one.
If you're not sure about TurboTax, you can do TurboTax online. With that, you don't pay anything until you file, so if it didn't do the job, just don't file, and the experience was free.
I like having the program on my hard drive, but my son likes the online fine. It saves your file for you with a password so that each time you log in you can continue where you left off.
