Rob Tucker's PMAR Proposal
Damon, I don't doubt what you say, governments manage to mess up most everything.

But then how did they get the census data, like here:

I'm not sure when you were last in the UK but commuter train prices have gone through the roof. And the key routes are so crowded you can never get a seat during rush hour. More and more people are finding cars more convenient and cheaper for commuting to and from work. The public transport infrastructure is crumbling and it's getting more and more expensive to upgrade. The tube (London underground) is in desperate need of overhall but there is not enough money to do it.

There is mail delivery in Leilani Estates and I assume there are other subdivisions with mail delivery too.

Just so you know... if you don't have an address posted.... we are suppose to attempt to get an address from you personally.

We only go by each house once. If your not home... we get a description of the house and someone supposedly will come by later to personally ask you questions.

Therefore, you have a better chance of getting the census in the mail if we don't actually write down the address that is listed on the house and or end of the drive way sometimes.

But then the stupid census bureau trains everyone in America the same exact way and we have to follow it to a Tee. It just simply doesn't work in many rural area's where much of the population does not get their mail at their house... however they are asking us to collect the house address if it's posted.

Technically... Even if it is posted... we should still ask people if that's where they get their mail and if it's not... then we should get the PO Box.... But that takes tooooooo mucccccch tttttiiiiimmmmee and we have superiors across the country that want their damn bonuses at the expense of communities like Puna.

Don't get me wrong... Technically we are just canvassing and collecting addresses and mapspots. The official census hasn't even started.

I really have doubts that it will be correct.

I have more feelings that the population growth will not even be close to what it was perceived when the traffic counts were taken 7 years ago.

1 Million dollars has already been spent on planning the H-130 freeway to a company that worked as a liasion between state officials and a group of 25 us to plan the future of H-130 for the next 30 years.

I still don't have much faith in what that whole process turned into.

I myself was able to turn the tide on a vote by holding 6 of my votes off on a vote we were taking and being able to stack them all onto a subject that I felt was dear to me and those that I represented....

And that was the Safety of the overall Highway. That vote was won by one vote... Had I not stacked my votes... we could have been looking at something else as a priority on this $56 million dollar project.

One little itsy bitsy person like me turned the wave on a $56 million dollar project at one point.

Sorry folks... burying the power lines were "Buried the moment I mentioned it".

The Census Bureau doesn't go to Post Offices when they are canvassing.

If we don't get an address... they don't get something in the mail...

then technically someone is going out there in person based on the information that we have inputted in the computer.

I can tell you now... There is no way that some census people would be going out into the middle of the papaya fields between the hours of 5pm and 10 pm to collect data in person.

I myself just got my car back from having a major tune-up after all this off-roading I was doing.

And people do live out in the middle of papaya fields!

Damon, can't you discuss your census work somewhere else?

It's pertinent to the conversation.

I'll take the me out of it... but the census count and where our population is going or not going is pertinent to this topic.

EVERYTHING depends on that count funding , roads , schools and representation i think puna is owed another seat on the county counsel based on population. What a deference that would make to have another vote

Redistricting will be an upcoming battle. Hilo will prefer to see Puna with fractional representation. At the present we only have Emily Naeole whose district is wholly within Puna. J. Yoshimoto and Guy Enriques only represent a small portion of the district.

Unfortunately, last summer, Councilwoman Naeole voted against a bill which would have required that the redistricting commission meet in open session instead of behind closed doors. Another example of Emily doing what she is told in Hilo.

We should indeed have another representative due to us. To get PMAR (whatever version) and a raft of other overdue improvements we will have to stand up and fight for it. Hilo takes the lion's share of everything.

Shipman is not a person. Shipman is a corporation. There is nothing more un-Amercan than the arbitrary seizure of private property. But in the case of Shipman, it is the increase of population in Puna which has made this marginal land a great asset to that corporation. I feel that it is Shipman's civic duty, and to their economic interest, to donate a small amount of their holdings for the benefit of all concerned. Terry chambers, Pahoa
