#11
I am sorry to differ maybe wiped out is a little harsh, as far as North Korea not atacking anyone dont be fooled by the american news media North Korea has been attacking south korea Non Stop since the war began, I myself have loaded missles onto F-16's that have blown apart boats from North Korea that have attacked fishermans boats in off the shores of South Korea. I have loaded Bombs that have destroyed tunnels that the north were using for raids against the South...Just because its not on Fox news doesnt mean its not still going on...Were not supposed to have NUKES in south Korea but we do...

The article is also in today's Star Bulletin which we don't get to see in hard copy on this island any more: http://www.starbulletin.com/news/2009061...isles.html

Actually, I don't think anyone in Hawaii truly believes a N.Korean missile could make the 4,500 miles from there to the Hwn Islands. But it is a major sabre-rattle, aimed at the birthplace of the U.S. president, at a time when the N. Korean leader is doing everything possible aside from mooning the world to get attention.

Maybe his increasingly belligerent behavior will sway world opinion enough that a stronger military power could do the world (as well as his own citizens) a major favor by justifiably taking him out.

Sometimes it's easier to let things play themselves out...as in watching our County Council implode on itself.

thanks for pointing that out, it only goes to show that we are not dealing with rational leaders...They are not like us they do not think like us..the sooner we relize this the sooner the reality of dealing with this situation will come.

So let me see if I have this correct, We (the USA) is not supposed to have nuclear weapons in South Korea, but we do. But, we are upset that North Korea has nuclear weapons on their soil in their own county (just like we have). I remember reading something along this line once before. Country A had placed missiles in Country B that was close to Country C. Country C was pissed that those missiles were there and claimed it posed serious threat to its security. Country C demanded the removal of those missiles under threat of literally having its fingers on the nuclear button. Now, I just can’t remember but wasn’t that the Cuban Missile Crises? What if N. Korea looks at the US like we looked at the former USSR, and they view S. Koreas as a puppet regime of the USA, like we viewed Cuba a puppet regime of the former USSR? Wouldn’t that mean they have the right to threaten us and S. Korea with whatever weaponry is at their disposal, like we did?

I read the actual article’s translation and at the end the Japanese, South Korean and other non US intelligence agencies admitted that the N. Koreans don’t have a missile capable of reaching Hawaii. The actual article is a lot more speculative in nature, something many US media outlets seemed to have omitted.

Now that also brings up the other issue. Didn’t I read a few months ago in the Honolulu Advertiser, and right here on Punaweb about the success of our military on Hawaii to shoot down these incoming missiles? Yeah, I know we failed a dozen other times and failed several times since, but judging by many peoples Rah-Rah cheat beating, flag waving response, I would think they would welcome the opportunity to show that our military success that day was not the exception, but the rule.

Bob, those would be a really good points if we ignored ALL the history of the USA and NK.

Nukes in North Korea present a greater threat to the world than any other enemy, and that may even include a deadly strain of swine flu. If nothing is done, think 5 years from now. China is the key to stopping the madness, and all it would take for them to act would be for Taiwan to announce that they too are afraid of being attacked (by China), and that they are going to start a nuclear weapons program of their own.

End discussion.

Ounce again Rob has felt that it is much better to sweep all this crap under the rug and not discuss it in an open forum. “Kumba ah, brah”, the NK are a very dangerous group of individuals that will kill you for what you have, because they have nothing under their leadership. Their own people have nothing to say about the way their country is being run. It is solely up to the people in power and that group has the mentality of nothing more than “ Nuke-um Nellie, what do we have to loose”

Be aware, be very aware. The last thing that I want to see is our small islands used as a reason for these oppressors of humanity to make a statement and flex their muscles [no matter how small they are] they could hurt us greatly.

Yes, the news media is out there selling their rags, and TV is pumping adrenalin into the public for ratings, but if these a-holes want to do something stupid who is going to stop them, and which island will suffer the most?

I know Rob, this will never happen, and the twin towers in Manhattan would never be attacted ether right?

We need to inform China that if we get nuked by North Korea, we won't be able to pay back the trillions of dollars we owe them.

I think a sensible way for us to posture is to get our Generals BIGGER hats than the Koreans.

Our military obviously knows of the threat and is well positioned to address it. I just hope that everyone remembers that this ability to counter a missile threat is the result of former President Reagan having the forethought to advance our safety with the development of the SDI - Strategic Defense Initiative. Let's hope our new president does not drop its' continued development believing that diplomacy works on nutcase regimes like North Korea and Iran.
