you might even set it up to receive ebills from helco. that's what we did. the email notice comes from mycheckfree.com. also, if you pay your bill at first hawaiian bank, there's a $1.00 fee. we don't usually pay the fee at the downtown hilo branch because we have priority banking, but if we go to other branches, they charge us?!
more than likely if you use a "credit check" from your credit card company, it will be treated as a cash advance and you will incur fees. check with your bank and/or credit card company.

are you taking connection fee or poles?
even with all their rate and cost mumbo jumbo... the contractor was able to run the wire from the house to the street for less than helco in my case.
Id watch the cable people also ... they wanted 2700$ to bring in the cable, I passed.
Six months later they wrote me and offered free installation, 700 foot 7 pole drop - and yes the installer less than thrilled, but he did it.

Green, The Southpoint wind turbines are not owned or operated by HelCo... in fact, most alternative energy on island are operated under IPP agreements (the hydropower on the Wailuku is the big producing exception.
WHY? The cost of infrastructure is enormous & most systems are outdated in a fairly short -by energy industry standards.... (new is decades...) .
There are actually 2 wind farms at Southpoint. The more visible is the out-dated & out of service farm & the newer is beyond & down a ridge... Many people wonder why the old is left there... it was taken out of service due to the expense of maintaining the old out-of-date equipment that did not generate near the same as newer models on smaller foot prints... and for the fact that the machinery is no longer supported by the manufacturer..

i was commenting on setting up an account with helco online so that you wouldn't have to mail in the payment or go to their office. it would be for your future monthly bills not for what they are asking immediately.
