Here in SoFlo, Auto insurance is UBER expensive, and most motorisits are not insured.

Insurance is required here and you cannot get a vehicle registered or pass safety inspection without a current proof of insurance.

As for expensive.... hard to answer that, for me it depends on the value of the vehicle I am insuring, the deductible I select, the coverage I select and my driving record. I think the local auto insurance costs are not as scary as homeowner's insurance in lava zone one.

You def need insurance to register a car here as well, but many people dont pay their bill and continue to keep the coverage.

They put it on to register and than dump it.

Ive seen Auto Insurance here anywheres from 150-300 a month

yeah 300/month is allot. That is more than New York City which is the most expensive car insurance I have had the pleasure of paying.

I have a 2005 vehicle with full comp and pay about $140 a month with Geico.

Yea, it is not uncommon for first time drivers to pay over $300 a month

I've never needed proof of insurance for registration; this is "implied" by the safety check.

Moved here a year and a half ago from California - have Statefarm (Kea'au office) for my car insurance, and it's half of what it was in CA! That makes me very happy. I get better gas mileage here as well, i'm not driving as fast as I did on the freeways of CA!
