because lava is softer than water?

[quote]Helicopters were here before I was (they were on Maui as well).... seems unfair to shut them down

Gee, that factory was spewing carcinogens into the air and water before I came along...seems unfair to shut them down.

You can walk on the lava. You can't walk on the water. Helicopters can autorotate to a successful vertical landing if they lose their engine.

I'm not going to claim that this doesn't bother anyone. It occasionally bothers me when I am at my place inn Eden Roc although it may be that I'm not in a particularly bad spot in Eden Roc. Sometimes it is inevitable that by voicing a contrary opinion one will invite anger more than reasoned discourse. I already got those vibes when I said earlier that it didn't seem that bad to me. I still feel that way. I do feel that if the helicopters were there first it is reasonable to let them get on with their business. I don't thinnk the factory spewing carcinogens is a good analogy.

If you drop your pants when the helicopters fly over, it should only be to moon your neighbors. Nobody in an aircraft can see it.

I wonder if somebody put something so crass, so obscene, so emotionally disturbing on their property large enough and only visible from helicopter altitude, if it would cause a shift in the flight paths?

what about cars, houses, cats, dogs, everything else that are not 1/2 mile off shore and might be impacted by a controlled landing on engine failure of said copter...any consideration?

LOL Terracore, I have often thought the same thing. The one and only heli tour I took, the pilot (a friend) specifically flew us out to see a pecker shaped swimming pool in north Kona. A gross display of who-knows-what might inadvertently turn one's self into a new attraction, best viewed from the sky [Big Grin]

I have noticed, and it *could* be co-incidence...that the flyovers at my place have dropped by half since I put walls on my outdoor shower [;p]

Apply that same logic to slavery and maybe you'll see how useless it is. Slavery existed before, should that have stopped us from ending it? If that's to broad a step for you go back to the factory analogy. Lets see factory's spew gross exhaust and yep looks like helicopters spew gross exhaust also...

terracore, something like this perhaps?

Unfortunately, like hooligal, I suspect it would only increase helicopter traffic!

In Nov. of 2011, I did kinda want to paint the Hawaii Trib Herald Headline of "5 dead in Hawaii Tour Helicopter Crash" in highly reflective paint on my roof....

Kinda doubt the pilots would encourage that flyover!... but I also felt that would not be right (2 reasons, the tragedy & the fact it was on Maui)....so much for my morality! ...And the "walk away from a crash landing over land 'cause the pilot can recover" theory!

BTW, that pilot recover theory is also better when they have more vertical distance to recover, many of the flights people are complaining about are very low flying (under 1000') & over the schools in Keaau?... could have very tragic, but very foresee-able, results..

that stuff is amateur. I said emotionally disturbing.

I was told that someone put a giant inflatable ***** on their roof, and had fewer flyovers.

Punaweb bowdlerized my response. Let's call it a "male member"
